Berlin and its hidden treasures: along the Spree Canal in Mitte, nestled between the east prefabricated apartment blocks / Plattenbauten and Museum Island, lies the former hardware store Haus Lademann (built in 1872–1874), which has been carefully restored—preserving its original cast-iron columns and elements—and brought back to life. This is where the zero360 agency has set up the new location and entered into a collaboration with Vitra for the office workspace. Whether in the basement, on the ground floor, or on the first floor, the charm of the past combined with contemporary office furnishings is hard to beat, while the Spree flows by 🙂 It’s seriously awesome—most new buildings can only look on in awe. #vitra #zero360 #interior #architecture #berlin

Penta Real Estate Prague, Zaha Hadid

In 2007, I had the opportunity to photograph Zaha Hadid’s new “mesa” table for Vitra at the Salone del Mobile Milano. Shimmering golden, the organic object stood on the stage like a spaceship. Zaha Hadid liked the photos, and her office contacted me to convey her delight. Last year, we were able to photograph one of her last projects in Prague, which she apparently designed herself, a two-part ship stranded in the city center at Prague’s main train station, the new Masaryčka building. Three companies furnished with Vitra furniture: Penta, the real estate developers, B&G, and the IT company, 2nd Foundation. All three projects can be seen on my homepage. At Penta, you can see the unity between the interior and exterior. Not only is the simplified “Mesa” table used as an office table in the executive office, but the exterior façade is also reflected in the interior design. The two entrance areas shows off the design language, creating a sensation when you enter the organic space, but also when you stand in front of the building, a radiant golden spaceship, just like the “Mesa” table in Milano. #zahahadid #vitra #masaryčka #prague #design #architecture

Banks, doctors’ offices, ice cream shops—they all have one thing in common: you always wonder about the awful interior. Who designed it, why did they do it, could it be any worse? The customer areas of most bank branches in particular feel like they’re stuck in the 1990s, which is why these two bank projects for Vitra were a revelation. Two bank branches in the provinces, the Volksbank in Hofgeismar and the VR Bank in Burgau, not headquarters in the big cities. Things can be done very differently; change is also slowly taking place in the financial sector, and customers and employees can interact with each other in a pleasant environment. Discarding old, outdated areas, creating new, open, communicative areas, giving people more freedom, whether in open customer areas or employee offices, suddenly it all feels normal and pleasant, and you don’t feel the urge to leave these otherwise ugly bank branches as quickly as possible. In conversation with branch managers and bank employees, it quickly becomes clear that customers are coming in, employees are more motivated, there are fewer sick days, the mood is good, and morale is high. As times change, we need to change old, outdated frameworks

Who manufactures these precise individual parts for a watch movement? I often find myself watching watchmaker vids where they take apart, clean, and reassemble used high-quality watches. The beautiful, delicate elements, tiny in size, cannot have any tolerances, otherwise time will run out :-). Last year, we had the opportunity to photograph for Vitra at a company that manufactures these individual parts. Located in Switzerland, home to master watchmakers, this company is situated in a classic industrial park. How to deal with these commercial properties, which were built purely for functionality and speed at the time. Nothing special from the outside, but surprisingly inviting on the inside after the renovation. New offices with a state-of-the-art production hall. Turning old into new, one of the essential sustainability themes not only in architecture. #vitra #newoffice #sustainability #precision #watch

“‘Long-term, sustainable entrepreneurial thinking and action is one of START Global’s core values, which is why we have equipped our campus almost exclusively with second-hand furniture.’ (…) Question: What feedback have you received from users and visitors to the space so far? – The users immediately felt at home and visitors have been very enthusiastic and like to come by for a coffee in addition to official events. That makes us happy because we’ve tried to create a place that people also enjoy using in their free time. The boundaries between work, eating, learning, relaxing, socialising, partying … are very fluid.’ Roland Schönholzer, Member Board of Trustees, START Foundation” Vitra Homepage

How to optimise working environments: Dynamic, communicative collaboration is central at Gore and the associates culture provides a good foundation for adopting new modes of office work. Back in 2019 Vitra was commissioned to team up with users to develop a future workplace in an open empty space, in order to enhance this special networking culture and its work structures and processes and implement them in new more flexible spatial concepts.

Club Office, Vitra

“Vitra’s Club Office: using our own spaces as a testing ground for our Research & Design team, Vitra’s Consulting & Planning team has built the first Club Office at our head office in Birsfelden, near Basel, Switzerland. People do not come to the office today for individual activities requiring concentration – they come because they have a desire to feel part of a larger whole, because they want to meet their colleagues, and because they seek new knowledge and experiences.”
