TU Delft

Culture and education

"The 13th of May 2008 will always stand out in the minds of staff and students of the TU Delft, as it was the day that a fire (caused by a coffee machine catching light) destroyed the entire Faculty of Architecture building. In “BK City”, the faculty’s new home in a converted and extended historical building, great value was attached to an inspiring campus design. This was because they wanted to take the opportunity to attract students from all over the world with a lively environment. As a result, the new interior design concept incorporated findings from studies of other universities that showed that the needs of modern students have drastically changed. With this in mind, the interior designers subsequently included various zones in their planning: for teamwork, telephone calls, concentrated individual work, relaxed discussions and random encounters, etc. The quality of the products used had to fit the concept. As a result, the various areas were almost exclusively furnished with Vitra products. The dramatic increase in the number of registered students and their positive reactions to the high-quality work environment show that TU Delft is on the right track." vitra; Interior design/planning: Braaksma & Roos, Den Haag; Fokkema & Partners Architecten B.V., Delft; Kossman.dejong, Amsterdam; MVRDV, Rotterdam; Octatube International B.V., Delft; Areas furnished Waiting area, lounge, conference rooms, cafeteria, auditorium, library, university
